Following in His Footsteps…Er, Tire Tracks
My dad was my first hero. Actually, he’s my last hero, too.
From the first baseball he threw me to the last breath I saw him take, I never thought, “Oh, there’s no reason to ask Dad about this – he won’t have any idea.”
Sure, objectively I knew – and still know – there were things he might not be capable of doing, but there was never anything that seemed outside his purview. If I asked, he could always direct me to the answer. And, most often, that meant showing me how to do it himself. Playing guitar, driving a car, whatever – I always looked to him to show me how it was done.
That’s what this ride is going to be – my dad showing me how it’s done. It probably won’t be the last time, either.
This is going to be quite a ride.
